Potol chingrir dalna/ spicy pointed gourd with prawns..


In summer season,this is one of the popular dish in Bengal,where pointed gourd cooked with small prawns.This dish is very simple but delicious. Ingredients :-

1.pointed gourd (potol)-7-8 pieces(scrap and cut into two pieces ).
2.Potato -2 medium (cut into square shaped).
3.Small prawns-7-8 pieces.
4.Cumin powder -1 tsp.
5.Coriander powder -1 tsp.
6.Kashmiri red chilli powder -1 tsp.
7.Turmeric powder -1 tsp.
8.Salt -1 tsp.
9.Onion(chopped)-1 medium.
10.Tomato(chopped)-1 medium.
11.Sugar-1/2 tsp.
12.Garam masala powder -1/2 tsp .
13.Warm water -1 glass.
14.Mustard oil -6 tbsp .
15.Dry spices cumin seeds -1/2 tsp.
16.Dried red chilli -1.
17.Bay-leaf.

Method:-

 

1.Mix pinch of turmeric powder and salt with small prawns.


 
2.Marinate the prawns.keep aside.


 
3.Take a bowl.

 

4.Add cumin powder.

 

5.Add coriander powder.

 6.Add Kashmiri red chilli powder.

 

7.Add turmeric powder,salt.

 

8.Add ginger-garlic paste.

 

9.Add sugar.

 

10.Add 1/2 cup of warm water.


 
11.Mix Well.keep Aside.


 
12.Heat oil in a pan.


 
13.Fry prawns till light golden brown on both side.


 
14.Drain.keep aside.


 
15.In the same pan fry pointed gourd with pinch of turmeric powder.


 
16.Drain.keep aside.


 
17.Add some more oil.fry potato pieces with a pinch of turmeric powder.


 
18.Drain.keep aside.


 
19.Temper the oil with cumin seeds,dried red chilli and bay leaf.


 
20.Add chopped onion fry for 2 minutes.


 
21.Add Tomato pieces.Fry for 2 minutes.


 
22.Add prepared masala.


 
23.After 4-5 minutes the masala releases oil.


 
24.Add fried pointed gourd,potato pieces.Stir.


 
25.Add fried prawns.Give a good stir .

 26.add water.

 

27.Cook for 7-8 minutes with lid on medium flame.


 
28.Add garam masala powder.


 
29.Serve with steamed rice,roti,chapati.
